Notes: Fix the problems in the UHD version that arose due to the use of Sony RS + to scale the image from the original master - ringing, thickening line art etc. The main advantage of this Japanese 4K SDR release lies in the significant benefit of 10-bit HEVC encoding with its substantial bitrate headroom over the outdated 8-bit 1080p transfer, which suffered from noticeable banding.
The subtitles and English dub are taken from the D4C remux.

Trying to fix the thickness of the line art was a bad idea! You just decreased its contrast, made the edges look blurrier and messed with the softness of the shadows. The untouched versions of this movie look sharper and better!
Hmm... no? The upscaling algorithm used by the studio introduced artifacts - such as a "thick pencil stroke" effect along the lineart. Additionally, halos (black rather than white) appeared in many dark areas of the image. These are all resampling errors. The defects described above were carefully corrected using edge masks, without altering contrast settings or other parameters. In other words, the encoded image is as close as possible to the original Blu-ray (1080p) version.
A slight "plasticine" look to the line art remains upon close inspection using zoom. But that is the unavoidable price of such upscales.
